Clean plates without the reshoot
Every compositor knows the drill: the production forgot to shoot a clean plate, and now the paint-out of the boom operator is your weekend. AI plate generation won’t replace a properly shot plate on hero work — but it gets you a usable background pass in minutes instead of days.
Where it fits in a real pipeline
- Paint-out reference: generate the empty scene, then use it as a cleanup source for your manual paint work instead of cloning patches by eye
- Previz and temp comps: drop the AI plate into the timeline so editorial can cut with a clean background while finals are in progress
- Crowd thinning shots: shoot the location as-is, generate the empty version, and blend regions to taste
- Social and short-form finals: at 1080p delivery the AI plate is often final-quality on its own
Honest limitations
The output is a diffusion reconstruction, not a locked-off erase. Structure, perspective, and camera motion track the source faithfully, but high-frequency detail — small signage text, fine patterns — can drift. Color can shift slightly, so plan a grade match. Frame counts snap to the model’s 8k+1 constraint and output currently tops out near HD. For pixel-critical hero comps, treat it as a very good starting point, not a delivery.
The model underneath
This service runs Lightricks’ open-weight LTX-2.3 Clean Plate IC-LoRA — the same weights you could wire into ComfyUI, minus the 24 GB GPU and the graph surgery. Full-frame removal of dynamic subjects, reference-conditioned so framing and length match your source exactly.
